GARY BAKER : MANAGING DIRECTOR
I founded Wales and West Media Ltd in 2007, having worked as a journalist and PR consultant for over a quarter of a century. But we are a modern, vibrant team here and adapt with the times. That means we work in journalism and PR across all sectors of media, from TV, radio, print and now new and social media.
What I bring to the table is a vast experience at the sharp end of the media from national London-based tabloid and broadsheet papers and TV to the local media. My strengths are consistency throughout my work, a big contact and database within the media and outside and an unquenchable enthusiasm.
Wales and West Media work with clients from many different industries but my specific favourites are business and sport.
I am a Masters degree graduate in entrepreneurship and business development and particularly enthused about working with start-ups and SMEs.
This has now lead to our own exciting venture, a new publication called SME Wales, the only print, digital and online magazine aimed purely at the small to medium-sized business environment, of which I am editor.
My other love is sports journalism. You have to live your dreams in your life, so covering sports event every weekend, particularly rugby union and cycling, is just that - living the dream.
But I am immensely proud to have worked at major championships, like the Rugby World Cup and the Commonwealth Games, with working for 17 days, with an Access All Areas media accreditation, at the 2012 London Olympic Games being my personal gold medal.
I am a member of national bodies the Sports Journalists Association and the Rugby Union Writers Club. My teenage daughter means everything to me but I also enjoy walking, films and the company of friends, and I am somewhat known for the ability to get cheap train tickets to events around the country.
KEVIN COUGHLAN : ACCOUNT CONSULTANT
Kevin’s experience as a communicator covers more than three decades in both the media and public relations. His skills as a marketing communications consultant have been put to particularly effective use in promoting innovation across the full range of business sectors, including aerospace and advanced technologies, as well as defence and security matters.
As a publishing consultant and author, Kevin has project-managed a book promoting and celebrating Bristol's independent businesses and is also author of a history of Bath Rugby Club, After The Lemons, which was shortlisted for the British Sports Book Awards 2011.
He still finds time to cover rugby at Bath, walk his Labrador, drive a 40-year-old Triumph Vitesse Convertible and support a son and daughter at university.
Tracy is a creative and energetic individual with 20 years of media, public relations and writing experience. She is equally comfortable writing factual and fictional prose, and enjoys using storytelling techniques and strong narratives to create clear and memorable messages for a wide range of audiences and sectors.
She has a first-class degree, plus a post-graduate diploma in public relations.
Tracy is the only freelance writer and editor working on Dewis Cymru – a national website which provides quality information about wellbeing and signposts people to local services.
A keen hiker, Tracy has written two travelogues: one about walking the length of Wales, the other about completing the Via Algarviana in Portugal. A third book is nearing completion. She enjoys photography and has contributed photographs to several hiking guidebooks written by her partner.
Tracy is a member of Lliswerry Runners and ran the London Marathon in 2015. As she passed Buckingham Palace and started to sprint up The Mall, she gasped, ‘never again’ and she has kept to her word.
Tracy has three grown-up daughters and two grand daughters who think it strange that not all grandmothers go backpacking and run through woods for fun like theirs.
Finally, Tracy and Gary Baker have known each other since school.
